Meet the Wine

We have about 500 different grape varieties in Italy and it would take about a year to try them all if we drank one bottle per day (less if we tasted wines without spitting).

The evolution of a love affair...

Tony Sasa fell in love with wine in 1994 after spending time working in pizzerias and restaurants in Italy. In 2006 he opened his own shop to be his own boss and has been creating relationships all over the world ever since. He prides himself in finding quality wines from small boutique wineries, the underdogs of Italian wine, from all Italy.

However, Tony’s first love was music. He started playing drums at 13 years old before his pizza days and considered classic American rock quality company. Like music, wine is just as tactile. Each region, winery, and fruit produces a different wine similar to the way each instrument makes a different sounds.

Although he might’ve moved on from playing drums late into the night, Tony’s music is as quintessential to Enoteca Pontevecchio as the wine. Customers can explore Etna, Barolo, Amarone, Chianti Classico Brunellos and many, many others great unknown appellations to a soundtrack of Sting, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles ecc. Tony will be at the center of it all.

When Tony is not traveling he’s often found in the shop, working with customers, and encouraging them to find their new favorite Italian wines.
